Special Olympics Saudi Arabia and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Monday, April 6, 2026, aimed at strengthening collaboration in the fields of health training, scientific research, and volunteering, contributing to improving the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The signing ceremony took place at the Commission’s headquarters in Riyadh. Special Olympics Saudi Arabia was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abdulrahman bin Ahmed Al-Quraishi, while the Commission was represented by the Executive Director of Member Experience, Mr. Mishari bin Omar Alomar, in the presence of several officials from both entities.
The memorandum focuses on developing specialized training programs and workshops for healthcare professionals, implementing joint awareness campaigns, and providing opportunities for health volunteering within Special Olympics programs. These efforts aim to enhance the capabilities of national healthcare professionals and promote inclusive healthcare across the Kingdom.
Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Quraishi emphasized that this memorandum aligns with the Federation’s strategic direction to build strong partnerships with the health sector, noting that the health of Special Olympics athletes is a top priority. He added that the agreement builds on existing collaboration with the Ministry of Health, enhancing the quality of healthcare services provided to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and supporting the Federation’s vision of an inclusive and healthy society through sport.
He further highlighted that the partnership with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties represents a significant step in preparing national healthcare professionals to deliver services with professionalism in line with international standards, in addition to developing joint health and research programs that contribute to improving service quality and overall well-being.
This partnership is expected to expand preventive health programs and enhance early detection of health conditions, supporting the inclusion of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and enabling them to participate in sports within a safe and healthy environment.
The memorandum also contributes to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by supporting the development of a vibrant society and ensuring access to comprehensive healthcare services for all members of the community.
