Young Athletes are children with intellectual and developmental disabilities between the ages of 2 and 7 who participate in simplified sports programs designed to develop fundamental motor skills and promote social interaction at an early age.
These programs focus on developing physical abilities and motor coordination, while also building self-confidence and encouraging participation in group activities, helping prepare children for future involvement in Special Olympics sports programs.
This category does not participate in official competitions, as athletes become eligible for competitive participation upon reaching the age of eight, in accordance with approved Special Olympics standards.
