Special Olympics Saudi Arabia oversees the organization and delivery of an integrated calendar of sports competitions throughout the year, aimed at empowering athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate and compete within a fair and motivating environment.
These competitions are organized across three main levels, ensuring broad participation and a progressive competitive pathway aligned with athletes’ abilities and athletic development.
1. Local Competitions
Held at the level of clubs and sports centers, these competitions aim to provide participation opportunities for the largest possible number of athletes, identify emerging talent, and promote regular sports participation.
2. Regional Competitions
These competitions bring together athletes from multiple clubs within a defined geographic area, with the aim of elevating the level of competition, enhancing performance, and preparing athletes for participation in national championships.
3. National Competitions
Held at the national level across the Kingdom, these competitions bring together top athletes qualified through the regional competitions. They represent the highest level of domestic competition and serve as a platform for selecting athletes to participate in regional and international events.
These competitions are organized in accordance with Special Olympics International standards, ensuring the implementation of the “divisioning” principle and promoting fair competition among athletes.
