Special Olympics Saudi Arabia concluded today its National Basketball and Volleyball Competitions, hosted in Jeddah on 12–13 June 2026, with the participation of 145 athletes representing 11 clubs from across the Kingdom.
The competitions featured basketball and volleyball events for male and female athletes. The men's basketball competition was conducted according to the Special Olympics Divisioning System, ensuring fair and equitable competition among athletes and participating teams.
In the volleyball competition, which was held in a single division, Madinah Club secured first place, followed by Taif Club in second place, Jeddah Club in third place, Tabuk Club in fourth place, and Efaa Club in fifth place.
In the women's basketball competition, Efaa Club claimed first place, while Aseer Club finished second. Desert Gazelles Club placed third, and Maharat Al Tafawuq Club finished fourth.
In the men's basketball competition (Division I), Jeddah Club secured first place, followed by Qassim Club in second place, Aseer Club in third place, and Desert Gazelles Club in fourth place.
In the men's basketball competition (Division II), Efaa Club earned first place, Al Jouf Club finished second, Tabuk Club placed third, and Team Up Club came fourth.
Mr. Talal Alhumaidan, Director of Communications and Partnerships at Special Olympics Saudi Arabia, stated that the national competitions reflect the organization's commitment to providing meaningful competitive opportunities for athletes throughout the sports season. He emphasized that these competitions contribute to developing athletes’ sports skills, strengthening their self-confidence, and supporting their inclusion in society.
Alhumaidan added that these competitions are part of Special Olympics Saudi Arabia’s annual sports calendar and play an important role in enhancing athletes’ readiness and monitoring their technical and physical development ahead of upcoming competitions, increasing their opportunities to participate and represent the Kingdom in regional and international events.
A total of 386 health screenings were conducted during the competitions through the Healthy Athletes® program, covering several health disciplines, including Special Smiles® (oral health), Healthy Hearing®, Opening Eyes®, and physical therapy services.
Alongside the competitions, a Family Gathering was organized by the Team Up Special Olympics Club Family Council as part of Special Olympics Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to promote athlete health, support families, and contribute to improving quality of life through sport.
The competitions concluded with the awards ceremony honoring winning clubs and athletes in a celebratory atmosphere that reflected the spirit of competition and achievement, while highlighting the continued growth of Special Olympics Saudi Arabia’s sports programs and athlete participation from across the Kingdom.
