The Special Olympics was founded globally in 1968 in the United States through the initiative of Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Today, it has grown into a global organization serving more than five million athletes across over 170 countries. Through the power of sport, the movement contributes to enhancing participants’ quality of life, developing their abilities, and promoting their active inclusion within society.
