Special Olympics Saudi Arabia concluded its participation in the MENA Regional Beach Games, held in Hammamet, Tunisia, from 16 to 22 June 2026, with a haul of two silver medals and a fourth-place finish.
The Saudi delegation competed in three sports: Unified Beach Volleyball, Unified Triathlon, and Open Water Swimming, as part of the first stage of the 10th Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa Regional Games.
The Unified Beach Volleyball team secured the Kingdom’s first silver medal after an impressive campaign that culminated in reaching the final, where they finished runners-up to the United Arab Emirates. In Triathlon, Saudi athletes added a second silver medal, reflecting the continued development and competitive progress of Special Olympics Saudi Arabia teams. In Open Water Swimming, Mohammed Al-Olayan finished fourth, delivering a strong performance in one of the most demanding events of the Games.
Talal Alhoumiedan, Director of Communications and Partnerships at Special Olympics Saudi Arabia, said that the participation provided valuable technical and competitive gains for the athletes, noting that the Regional Games serve as an important platform for developing their skills through competition with athletes from across the region.٤
He added that the benefits of such participation extend beyond technical development, helping athletes build meaningful friendships and strengthen inclusion through sport.
Alhumaidan further emphasized that these results reflect the ongoing efforts of Special Olympics Saudi Arabia to develop its athletes, prepare them for future competitions, and empower persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to represent the Kingdom and showcase their abilities at regional and international events.
This participation marks another step in Special Olympics Saudi Arabia’s journey to elevate athlete performance and maximize regional opportunities as part of its long-term preparation for future international competitions.
