What is the Fit 5 Program?
Fit 5 is one of the accredited fitness programs within Special Olympics, designed to promote a healthy lifestyle among athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities by focusing on physical activity, proper nutrition, and healthy daily habits.
Program Objectives
The Fit 5 Program aims to:
Enhance athletes’ physical fitness.
Promote healthier nutritional and lifestyle habits.
Raise awareness of the importance of physical activity.
Support athletes’ performance in training and competitions.
Promote a sustainable healthy lifestyle.
Program Methodology
The program is built around three main components:
Engaging in physical activity for 30 minutes a day, five days a week.
Consuming five servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
Drinking an adequate amount of water daily.
Areas of Application
The program can be implemented across various settings, including clubs, schools, and home environments.
The program also provides simplified tools that help athletes, coaches, and families track progress and achieve health goals.
